Mononoke the Movie: The Ashes of Rage Wins Fantasia International Film Festival's Audience Award

Last year's Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain had an excellent showing at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival, taking home the Bronze Audience Award and the Satoshi Kon Award, both for Best Animated Feature. The film trilogy continues its streak this year, with Mononoke the Movie: The Ashes of Rage taking home the Bronze Audience Award for Best Animated Feature once again. The Fantasia International Film Festival was established in 1996, and has gone on to become North America's largest genre film festival. 2025 marks the festival's 29th year, sporting a global lineup of films old and new. Anime continues to maintain a presence at the festival, with screenings of films ranging from Angel's Egg to the first four episodes of this season's Nyaight of the Living Cat . The first film in the trilogy, Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain , currently streams on Netflix. Crunchyroll streams the 2006 Mononoke TV anime and describes it as follows: In feudal Japan, evil spirits known as mononoke plague both households and the countryside.
