Yorgos Lanthimos’s ‘Bugonia’ Starring Emma Stone & Jesse Plemons Gets a New Trailer

Get your tinfoil ready, because Focus Features has released a second trailer for Bugonia from director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Killing of a Sacred Deer).

Tickets are on sale now for the genre-bending black comedy sci-fi thriller, opening in limited theaters on October 24 before expanding wide on October 31.

Emma Stone stars as the high-powered CEO of a major company who is kidnapped by two conspiracy obsessed young men, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, that are convinced she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.

After the pair chain her in a basement and come face-to-face with the enemy, the two sides — the tinfoil-hat basement dwellers and the steely, soulless corporate executive — soon find themselves pitched in a battle as viscerally unpredictable as it is unexpectedly moving.

Will Tracy (The Menu) wrote the script, based on Jang Joon-Hwan’s 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet.

The cast also includes Stavros Halkias as a local police officer and Alicia Silverstone as Plemons’ character’s mother.

Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) is among the producers on the project, which also include Lanthimos and Stone.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “The sardonic, genre-bending satire takes aim at modern echo chambers and their erosion of humanity. Lanthimos’ signature ability to skew reality with absurdist humor and style belies a cynical condemnation of our self-destructive nature.”
