While Wicked: For Good dominates the box office and The Wizard of Oz continues to immerse viewers at Las Vegas’ Sphere, horror fans have not one but two twisted reimaginings of L. Frank Baum‘s classic story to look forward to.
Up first is Gale: Yellow Brick Road, due out in select theaters on February 11, 2026.
Decades after her fantastical journey, Dorothy Gale is now a reclusive elderly woman, haunted by the dark secrets of her past adventures. When her granddaughter Emily inherits Dorothy’s rural Kansas home, she unwittingly becomes ensnared in a generations-old curse that threatens to drag her into the twisted remnants of Oz.
‘Gale: Yellow Brick Road’
As Emily uncovers the truth about her family’s connection to this otherworldly realm, she must confront the horrors that have been patiently waiting for her arrival. With each step down the decaying yellow brick road, Emily discovers that the line between reality and nightmare has blurred, and the once-magical land of Oz has become a terrifying playground for malevolent forces beyond her imagination.
With time running out and sanity slipping away, Emily must face her deepest fears and unravel the mysteries of Oz to break the cycle of terror – or risk becoming another lost soul.
Daniel Alexander makes his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Matthew R. Ford, expanding on their 2023 short Gale: Stay Away from Oz.
Chloë Crump, Karen Swan, Tenisha White, Laura Kay Bailey, and Josef Hyland star in Gale: Yellow Brick Road. Watch the trailer below while you wait.
Meanwhile…
Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz is in post-production for a planned 2026 release.
‘Dorothy: The Haunting of Oz’
Set on Halloween night in Marin County, California, the film follows a group of college basketball players who are mercilessly preyed on by terrifying manifestations of Dorothy, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and serial killer clowns.
The campus becomes a battlefield as each murder uncovers deeper layers of torment, including haunting visions of the land of Oz. As dark secrets rise to the surface, the students becomes both hunter and hunted, consumed by their own inner demons.

22-year-old writer-director Elijah J. Alvarez makes his feature debut, blending elements of psychological thriller, supernatural slasher, coming of age, and science fiction.
Michael Sullivan, Logan Laurel, Heidi Appe, Melissa Foster, Aaron Byrd, Rocky Velasco, Angela Michaela, Yvonne Orozco, and Ava Barone star.
To tide you over until these films are released, check out 2010’s YellowBrickRoad, which was originally released as part of the Bloody Disgusting Selects line.
Of course, 1985’s Return to Oz also offers a surprisingly creepy take on the material.
