The upcoming anime film adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori and Kakeru Sora's Whoever Steals This Book fantasy mystery manga is coming to Japanese theaters sooner than expected, following today's announcement of a December 26, 2025 release date. Whoever Steals This Book Teaser Trailer RELATED: Whoever Steals This Book Anime Film Announced for 2026 Release Daiki Fukuoka ( Yuki Yuna is a Hero: The Hero Chapter ) directs the Whoever Steals This Book anime film at studio Kagokan, equipped with a script by Yasuhiro Nakanishi ( Toilet-bound Hanako-kun ), character designs and chief animation direction by Keiko Kurosawa ( ASTRA LOST IN SPACE ) and music by Michiru Oshima ( Anne Shirley ). Yuji Higa, who founded studio Kagokan, is credited as animation producer. Yen Press publishes an official English version of Nowaki Fukamidori and Kakeru Sora's original manga and describes the story: Descended from a long line of book collectors, high school student Mifuyu is surrounded by books in every aspect of her life. Her great-grandfather established the famous Mikura Hall, a library in the heart of town, and even the townspeople are all avid readers. There’s just one problem—Mifuyu hates books! But when a thief in Mikura Hall triggers an ancient curse, she’s left with no choice but to reclaim the stolen books herself…by entering the very stories she despises!
