‘V/H/S/Halloween’ Actress Sarah Nicklin Shares Her 6 Favorite ‘V/H/S’ Segments

With V/H/S/Halloween now on Shudder, actress Sarah Nicklin — who stars in the “Home Haunt” segment — counts down her favorite segments from the found footage horror anthology franchise.

1. “Home Haunt” (V/H/S/Halloween)

Ok, I may be a little biased here, but I really do think this is the best segment! It’s so ambitious and creative. It beautifully blends horror and fantasy in a very scary real way. The tone is super fun and it has some of the best creature FX out of the whole franchise.

But, in case that doesn’t count given my involvement in it, here’s an additional 5 favorites:

2. “Amateur Night” (V/H/S)

I haven’t seen this movie since it came out and this segment is still stuck in my mind. Lily is instantly iconic, super eerie, and I love the twist of her becoming the predator when you think she’s going to be the victim.

3. “Safe Haven” (V/H/S/2)

Probably the most disturbing segment of the entire franchise. It’s intense and wild with nonstop insanity that goes crazy off the rails in the best of ways. I’m also just super fascinated with cults in general anyway.

4. “Phase I Clinical Trials” (V/H/S/2)

This is such a cool idea. It feels almost more like a “Black Mirror” episode, which I also love, than V/H/S. It’s very effective and feels claustrophobic and paranoid and makes you a little scared about what might be lurking next to you that you’re not aware of.

5. “Coochie Coochie Coo” (V/H/S/Halloween)

Such a fun and weird segment. The Mommy character is another instantly iconic villain. The creature and character design is so strange and unique and I could definitely see this taking off as a feature.

6. “Live and Let Dive” (V/H/S/Beyond)

They went motherfucking skydiving! Need I say more?! Skydiving is so fun and it was such an awesome creative idea to use for a segment. I love that they took it to the next level with this.

Having the opportunity to work on a segment for the V/H/S franchise has given me an even greater appreciation for the incredible creativity, passion, and dedication that goes into every segment of these films. And just how difficult found-footage truly is. “Home Haunt” was an ambitious, bold, high-concept story that pushed the boundaries of what you can achieve within the format.

Directors R.H. Norman and Micheline Pitt-Norman cultivated a highly collaborative, artistically driven environment that allowed the cast and crew to fully invest in the vision. Supported by Josh Goldbloom and the rest of the V/H/S/Halloween producing team, the production felt more like a collective passion project than just another job. Everyone involved poured everything they had into their roles both on and off screen.

That level of commitment is exactly what has made V/H/S such a beloved and enduring franchise. The love for genre filmmaking is present in every frame, and I’m incredibly proud to have contributed to something that continues to resonate with horror fans around the world.
