Update 2 for ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Now Available [Trailer]

A Hexen + Heretic remaster wasn’t the only pleasant reveal at QuakeCon, as id Software and Bethesda also announced Update 2 for DOOM: The Dark Ages. The patch adds in an endless arena mode known as the Ripatorium,  two new DOOM Slayer skins, a loopable demo for Benchmark Mode on PC and more.

As one might expect from a name like the Ripatorium, players are able to take on waves of enemies (called encounters) across three different arenas: City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim, and Harbor of Souls. The new mode allows players to set the amount of enemies you’ll encounter, as well as the types of enemies. You’ll also be able to enable a timer to really test your mettle, and even set the music.

Meanwhile, to get new DOOM Slayer skins, players will need to simply play DOOM: The Dark Ages between now and September 1st to unlock the QuakeCon 2025 DOOM Slayer skin, whereas for the Earnable Perfection DOOM Slayer skin, you need to complete an encounter in each of the three Ripatorium arenas to unlock it.

Along with the Benchmark Mode (which allows you to see just how badly you’ll need to upgrade your gaming PC in order to get those sweet visuals) there are several updates and improvements, including new difficulty settings sliders, the ability to tweak the duration of the slow-motion feedback after a shield parry, the ability to interrupt weapon bring-up and Shield Charge recovery animations and more. You can read up on the details for the update here.

DOOM: The Dark Ages (read Aaron’s take) is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series.
