Start your engines for more apocalyptic fun, because Peacock has renewed “Twisted Metal” for a third season.
David Reed (“The Boys,” “The Magicians”) is boarding the series as showrunner and executive producer. He replaces co-creator Michael Jonathan Smith, who’s exiting the show.
Based on the classic PlayStation video game series, the high-octane action-comedy series was developed by Smith, Rhett Reese, and
Paul Wernick.
In Season 1, which premiered in 2023, motor-mouthed outsider John is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of badass axe-wielding car thief Quiet, John faces savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road.
In Season 2, released this summer, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso. As they try to survive an onslaught of dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface.
The Season 2 finale saw John and Quiet prepare to take on Calypso after he framed them for murdering the spectators at the tournament, starting a war between the Insiders and the Outsiders.
Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, Will Arnett, and Anthony Carrigan star.
From Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television, the series is executive produced by Reed, Reese, Wernick, Mackie, Arnett, Marc Forman, Jason Spire, Peter Principato, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Hermen Hulst.
“Twisted Metal” Season 2 has registered 993 million minutes viewed to date, making it Peacock’s second highest-reaching returning original scripted season.
Daniel Kurland wrote in his review, “Twisted Metal’s second season laps the first in every department as it shifts into the perfect gear for more hyperbolized and hilarious vehicular violence.”
