CC ARTS is back with a follow-up to their 2023 top-down shooter Empty Shell with Empty Shell 2. No release date has been announced for the roguelite, but it’s coming to Steam, which currently has a demo available now.
In Empty Shell 2, players will take on the roles of expendable volunteers who have been sent to a forsaken facility on a remote Japanese island. Your mission is to recover lost data, scavenge for resources, manage your inventory, and endure unspeakable cosmic horrors.
Each volunteer must explore a massive dynamically-generated abandoned structure, complete tasks assigned by a mysterious organization, and recover resources and equipment to bring back to the shelter—improving their own chances of survival, and those of the ones who follow. When one volunteer dies, another is sent to continue the mission from where the previous volunteer perished. A meta-progression system ensures every death brings something new, allowing steady progress for each successive run.
You’ll be able to customize your loadout with a wide array of firearms, melee weapons, gadgets, and more, with the ability to upgrade your abilities using Upgrade Stations. You’ll also uncover old blueprints to modify your weapons, or to craft new ones at the Crafting Stations. Complete main and side quests to earn extra rewards and uncover new story details, and the lore behind the Structure and the post–World War II experiments that led to the project’s catastrophic consequences.
If you missed out on the original Empty Shell, you can find it on Steam, as well as the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
