‘Thirteen Lives’ Chronicles a Risky Rescue [Murder Made Fiction Podcast]

On Saturday, June 23, 2018, twelve young members of the “Wild Boars” soccer team and their coach became trapped in the rapidly flooding Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand. As part of a global rescue mission, a team of elite cave rescue divers was able to locate the stranded team two and a half miles into the submerged cavern. While outside teams struggled to divert rainwater away from the cave system, divers Rick Stanton (Viggo Mortensen), John Volanthen (Colin Farrell), and Harry Harris (Joel Edgerton) attempted an unthinkable plan to rescue the boys.

In the latest episode of Bloody FM’s Murder Made Fiction podcast, Jenn and Joe conclude a month of Aquatic Disasters with Ron Howard’s 2022 reenactment of this daring plan. With stunning underwater cinematography and unnerving sound design, Thirteen Lives brings us into this treacherous cave system while highlighting the emotional toll on everyone involved.
