Kids possessing supernatural abilities are getting abducted and subjected to experiments in the new trailer for “The Institute“, the new series based on Stephen King’s novel that’s arriving next month.
“The Institute” premieres with two episodes on July 13, 9pm ET/PT on MGM+.
Watch the trailer below that introduces the key players, from the gifted youth testing the limits of their power to the imposing adults at the mysterious Institute.
Mary-Louise Parker (Ms. Sigsby), Ben Barnes (Tim Jamieson), Joe Freeman (Luke Ellis), Simone Miller (Kalisha), Fionn Laird (Nick), Hannah Galway (Wendy), Julian Richings (Stackhouse), Robert Joy (Dr. Hendricks), and Martin Roach (Chief Ashworth) star.
In the eight-episode series, “Teen genius Luke Ellis (Freeman) is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.”
The series hails from director/executive producer Jack Bender (From, Mr. Mercedes), writer/executive producer Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand) and MGM+ Studios. Both filmmakers are no strangers to the world of Stephen King.
Stephen King, Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, and Ed Redlich also executive produce.
It’s shaping up to be quite a busy year for adaptations of the horror author’s work. HBO series “It: Welcome to Derry” is poised to arrive later this year, with film adaptations of The Long Walk and The Running Man set for theatrical release this fall.
“The Institute” is based on Stephen King’s 2019 novel.
