Today at the Xbox Partner Preview, Trigger Happy Interactive and Apogee Entertainment have gotten the jump on fans with Total Chaos, which is available now as a surprise launch! The atmospheric nightmare that blends different eras of survival horror hallmarks into one experience is now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series (including Game Pass with Xbox Play Anywhere support), with the SteamVR version coming in Q2 2026. Total Chaos will also be coming to GOG.com and the Epic Games Store.
“Total Chaos began for me almost two decades ago when the original mod became my first real step into creating a world of my own. I never imagined I’d return to Fort Oasis and rebuild it as a full standalone release on PC and consoles,” said Total Chaos developer and head of Trigger Happy Interactive, Sam Prebble. “I’m grateful to everyone who helped bring it to this moment, especially the teams at Apogee, Atari, and Infogrames. See you on the island. Listen carefully to the voice you follow.”
What began as an award-winning total conversion Doom II mod has now become a full standalone title with a spine-tingling atmosphere and an aggressively uneasy tension throughout. Total Chaos pulls players into the abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate wasteland once considered paradise by its residential coal miner community. A shadow looms over the island, inhibiting a sense of madness, which can only be described as the feeling of constantly being watched.
Monstrosities lurk around every corner of the island’s heart, trapping anybody daring enough to enter the void. While shooting and bludgeoning through these twisted foes, players will unearth fragments of forgotten lives to piece together the chilling mystery of Fort Oasis’ demise (and their connection to it) before their sanity runs dry.
Adding to the entire experience is a new original theme and end credits track by legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, who joins original Total Chaos mod composers Jason Dagenet and William Braddell, and Apogee’s music team, Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin. Together, the team has crafted an ambient, nightmare-inducing soundscape that blurs the line between music and madness.
