SOMA and Amnesia developer Frictional Games didn’t make an appearance at The Horror Game Awards Halloween Showcase yesterday, but nonetheless have something in the works. The developer and Kepler Interactive have dropped a new teaser of sorts, as well as launched a teaser website for something referred to as “Hotel Samsara”.
The teaser shows clips of various shots of the aforementioned hotel, overlayed with mysterious chants. The whole thing ends with the words “SOMETHING NEW”. Meanwhile, the teaser website talks about an investment opportunity that promises an “out of this world experience,” complete with fake reviews for the investments. You can also sign up for what looks to be updates for the upcoming project, disguised as investment information.
If you’re looking for clues, the following paragraph seems to be hiding something: “Since time immemorial mankind has dreamt of the stars and what lies beyond. Now LuxuryNext is prepared to deliver on that promise. Introducing, Hotel Samsara. A place like no other. A promise like no other. Exclusive. Luxurious. In Samsara, wishes will come true. Interested in investing?”
As you can see, there are certain letters that have been bolded, which spell “Steganog“. Of course, this isn’t a real word, but “steganography” is very real, which is defined as “the practice of representing information within another message or physical object”.
See what they did there?
Things get even more interesting once you get a response from signing up for the investment emails. The following message appears, with the phrase “FOLLOWERS OF __” hidden in the paragraph:
