‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake Has Now Shipped 2.5 Million Units

It’s taken a bit, and it probably helped that Silent Hill f was such a success, but Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake has now hit a combined 2.5 million in shipments and sales across PC and consoles since its launch last year. The series overall has now shipped a total of 10 million units worldwide.

Konami made the announcement as part of a news update video about the aforementioned Silent Hill f, which mentions the shipment numbers in the video.

Still, it’s a bit of a letdown when you compare the sales figures in the same timeframe for Silent Hill 2 to Capcom’s own Resident Evil 2 remake, which sold 4 million across PC and consoles in just its first month of release. Even the Resident Evil 3 remake, which was not as well received as RE2, managed to accumulate 2.7 million in sales in its first three months.

One can rationalize this as Capcom putting in the time to get the hype going, since we did get a demo for the remake leading up to its eventual launch, whereas Bloober Team was having to keep fans’ anticipation in check with periodic social media posts and press releases.

Capcom also had their marketing machine going into overdrive at the time with figures and merchandise. Truth be told, Konami did try to do the same with Silent Hill 2, but there just seemed to be more of a spread when it came to RE2.

Still, with the size of the team at Bloober, and the enormous expectations, 2.5 million in sales isn’t small potatoes. Plus, the game did earn five nominations at The Game Awards 2024, and did take home Game of the Year at The Horror Game Awards 2024.

If you’re one of those people who haven’t grabbed Silent Hill 2, you can check it out this month as part of the PlayStation Plus service. It’s also available for PC via Steam.
