Sigourney Weaver Praises the “Profound” Approach to the ‘Alien’ Franchise in ‘Alien: Earth’

Sigourney Weaver hasn’t appeared in the Alien saga in many years, but you can always count on somebody asking the actress for her thoughts on the current state of the franchise at any given time. The franchise’s latest evolution is of course creator Noah Hawley’s FX/Hulu/Disney+ series “Alien: Earth,” and one of the new show’s fans is Ellen Ripley herself.

Weaver tells People, “I’m really enjoying [“Alien: Earth”]. What I admire about it is the scope is so much more profound than just an Alien movie. It’s about our world and what’s dominating the world in 100 years, and to me it’s right on.” Weaver continues, “All these things are so remarkable and they’re just building and building and building.”

It seems Sigourney Weaver is also a fan of the new monsters Noah Hawley has introduced to the franchise through the “Alien: Earth” television series, which have expanded the scope of the threat beyond just the classic Face Huggers, Chest Bursters, and Xenomorphs.

“The monsters that he’s also bringing in are just terrifying,” Weaver notes in the chat with People. “It’s like, we don’t have enough problems with the alien, we need 50 more.”

“I can’t believe I’m watching TV,” she adds.

New episodes of “Alien: Earth” premiere every Tuesday night at 8pm ET. The show’s sixth episode arrives tonight, with the first season of “Alien: Earth” featuring eight episodes in total.

Will Sigourney Weaver ever be making her own return to the Alien franchise? The actress has remained open to the idea over the years, though no plans are in motion at this time.

“How much does the public really need or want another Ripley movie?” Weaver pondered last year. “I don’t really sit around and think about it, but if it came up, I would consider it. It has come up a bunch of times, but I’m also busy doing other things. Ripley has earned her rest.”
