This year’s bloody public domain slasher Screamboat is getting a sequel, with director Steven LaMorte telling Variety this morning that Screamboat 2: Nothing Stays Dead is on the way.
Screamboat 2 will enter development in 2026, and the sequel will make good on the promise of the first film’s post-credits tease and feature Steamboat Willie alongside Minnie Mouse.
LaMorte tells Variety, “I’m thrilled to announce the sequel to our bloody horror comedy. We had so much fun bringing these iconic characters to life with a bloody twist, and I look forward to returning to the world of Screamboat to create even more miniature murder and mayhem.”
The outlet notes, “While most of the cast is expected to return, no formal announcement has been made.” That likely means that David Howard Thornton will be back as the killer mouse.
Screamboat 2: Nothing Stays Dead will “continue the story and expand on the shocking cliffhanger ending of the first film — which teased the arrival of another murderous public-domain icon: Minnie.” LaMorte teases, “Fans can expect the sequel to build on that legacy with even more outrageous set pieces and gruesome comedy.”
In the first movie, “A New York City ferry ride turns into a hilarious nightmare when a mischievous mouse named Steamboat Willie becomes a monstrous reality. As passengers set sail, their trip turns deadly when the tiny terror unleashes murder and mayhem.”
Screamboat is now streaming on Peacock and coming to SteelBook Blu-ray in January.
