Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the North American rights to Studiocanal’s comedic sci-fi horror movie Cold Storage, and it has officially received an “R” rating.
Cold Storage has been rated “R“ this week for “violent content, gore, and language.”
Joe Keery (“Stranger Things“), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Liam Neeson (Taken), Sosie Bacon (Smile), Vanessa Redgrave (Mission: Impossible), and Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) star.
The film follows “Teacake (Keery) and Naomi (Campbell), two employees at a self-storage facility built atop a former military base, whose night shift transforms into a nightmare when a government-sealed parasitic fungus escapes from the underground levels. As temperatures rise, the microorganism unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting mayhem on anything in its path. The duo must join forces with a weathered bioterror operative (Neeson) to contain the threat before it triggers humanity’s extinction.”
The pesky Cordyceps fungus strikes again in the genre space, spelling disaster, suspense, and death in Cold Storage.
Jonny Campbell (“Dracula,” “Westworld”) directs from a script by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Presence), who adapts his 2019 novel of the same name. Koepp produces alongside Gavin Polone (Zombieland, Panic Room).
Koepp’s novel brought pulpy fun, delivering a fast-paced sci-fi thriller with humor. With Keery at the forefront of the cast, we should definitely expect the novel’s comedic side to carry over into this adaptation. Thanks to the new MPA rating, we can expect plenty of gory post-apocalyptic style mayhem, too.
Samuel Goldwyn Films plans a nationwide theatrical release later this year, so stay tuned for details as they arrive.
