Sarah Paulson is set to reunite with Ryan Murphy on “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.”
Variety has learned that the Emmy winner is nearing a deal to play serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the fourth season of Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Netflix anthology series.
Variety notes, “Given that Wuornos is not the focus of the season, it stands to reason that Season 4 will examine Borden’s impact on the perception of and connection to other female killers, much like how Season 3 explored the impact of Ed Gein’s crimes on popular culture.”
“Monster: Lizzie Borden,” which focuses on Borden and the axe murder of her father and stepmother, is currently in production in Los Angeles.
Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie alongside Charlie Hunnam as her father, Rebecca Hall as her stepmother, Billie Lourd as her sister, Jessica Barden as her close friend, and Vicky Krieps as the family’s maid.
Wuornos was convicted of the murder of seven men between 1989 and 1990 in Florida, where she was ultimately executed in 2002 after more than 10 years on death row.
Charlize Theron won an Academy Award for playing Wuornos in 2003’s Monster. Other actresses who have portrayed Wuornos include Peyton List, Jean Smart, and Lily Rabe, who played her in the fifth season of “American Horror Story.”
It was announced last week that Paulson will return to “American Horror Story” for its upcoming 13th season.
“Monster” launched in 2022 with “The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and was followed by “The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” in 2024 and “The Ed Gein Story” last month.
