The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Yuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days manga series released a new teaser trailer announcing the film's release date in Japan, April 29, 2026 . The clip also revealed for the first time the fat appearance of the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto, played by Ren Meguro (Japanese male idol group Snow Man member). He spent about four hours every day applying special makeup to transform into the plump figure. Action scenes will be supervised by Keiya Taguchi, who worked on the Attack on Titan live-action film series and Shin Kamen Rider . The two previously worked together on the UNDER NINJA live-action film. The other main cast members include Fumiya Takahashi (Kamen Rider Zero-One/Aruto Hiden in Kamen Rider Zero-One ) as Shin Asakura, Aya Ueto (Azumi in Ryuhei Kitamura’s Azumi ) as Aoi Sakamoto, and Miyu Yoshimoto as Hana Sakamoto. The original Sakamoto Days manga series has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since November 2020, with 25 collected volumes in Japan and 19 translated and released into English. The anime adaptation directed by Masaki Watanabe ( Bartender ) at TMS Entertainment premiered in January 2025, with Netflix streaming the series.
