Just like Xbox Series players were waiting on Silent Hill 2, PlayStation 5 owners can now get their hands on GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, exactly one year after its original launch on the Xbox Series and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.com. In addition to the PS5 release, version 1.7 of Heart of Chornobyl is now live across all platforms.
On PlayStation 5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 takes full advantage of the hardware, including:
- Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback
- Gyro aiming via motion sensors
- Speaker, lightbar, and touchpad features
- Tempest 3D Audio
- Full trophy support
While the PlayStation 5 Pro adds the following:
- Improved shadow quality and resolution
- Enhanced global illumination
- Higher-quality reflections
- Improved volumetric fog
- Enhanced volumetric cloud rendering
Meanwhile, alongside “hundreds of fixes and improvements,” the 1.7 update adds several need features:
- New quality of life improvements, with NPCs and mutants now actively fighting for and losing control of territories. Most points of interest, checkpoints, and locations (except hubs) are constantly contested.
- A new ultra-hard mode, selectable only at the start of a new game. Features tougher balance, no autosaves, and disabled manual saves. Progress is saved only when leaving hubs or during major story moments.
- Redesigned UI for inventory and equipment, showing protection against Zone hazards. Consumables and artifacts now have five quality tiers instead of three. There’s also now a new radiation balance bar for equipped artifacts.
- Changes to stamina, with three movement speeds: walk, jog, and sprint. Overusing energy drinks now causes hand tremor and aiming penalties.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl puts you in the boots of Skif – a lone stalker, who enters the Zone after a series of unforeseen events. On the way to the Heart of Chornobyl, you will gradually uncover the secrets of this world, explore the balance of power between factions, fight, and survive. In this non-linear story, every choice you make will impact the outcome of this global and epic tale.
