Production Begins on Netflix’s Sea Creature Series Starring Josh Hartnett; Full Cast Revealed

Netflix has officially started production on its as-yet-untitled sea creature series. Filming is taking place in Newfoundland, Canada, where the show is also set.

Josh Hartnett stars as a grizzled fisherman who must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life when a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a remote Newfoundland town.

The ensemble includes Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), Willow Kean (The King Tide), Ruby Stokes (“Lockwood & Co.”), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Kaleb Horn (“Chucky”).

Natasha Henstridge (Species) and Joshua Close (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) are also said to appear.

The six-episode limited series is created by Jesse McKeown (“The Umbrella Academy”), who also serves as showrunner.

Jamie Childs (“The Sandman”), Helen Shaver (“Vikings”), and Stephen Dunn (“Queer as Folk”) will direct, while the writing team includes Karen Walton (Ginger Snaps), Perry Chafe (“Frontier”), and Natty Zavitz.

“Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama,” Netflix Canada content directors Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury said. “We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience and adaptability.”

Executive producers include Hartnett, McKeown, Childs, Jessica Rhoades (“Black Mirror”), Louise Sutton (“Black Mirror”), Chris Hatcher (“Shadowhunters”), and Sharon Hall (“The Expanse”).
