Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolves Past 12.3 Million Copies Sold

The Switch Pokémon games got a sales update today in Nintendo’s investor relations report, giving the first big overview for how Pokémon Legends: Z-A is faring as the first Pokémon game on the Switch 2, as well as new milestones for the previous two generations of games. Starting with Pokémon Legends: Z-A , between its release on October 16 and up to December 31, the main series game has sold 12.3 million copies across the original Switch and Switch 2. The numbers are a bit odd for the release, as the Switch sales data includes the digital versions for both consoles, while the Switch 2 numbers are only the physical “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” versions. Under the Switch sales numbers, Z-A sold 8.41 million copies, while on Switch 2, the game has sold 3.89 million copies. These numbers are nearly on par with the previous Pokémon Legends game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus , which sold over 12 million copies within its first two months in 2022, for an official total of 14.83 million copies. However, that number hasn’t been updated since March 2023.  Pokémon Legends: Z-A is currently the 16th highest-grossing Pokémon game, just shy of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver at 12.7 million copies sold and above Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen at 12 million copies. Note that none of these numbers include the Mega Evolutions DLC , for which sales numbers have not been reported. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Sword and Shield ’s major milestones bring the two previous generations of games ever closer to the rank of Pokémon Red and Blue . Scarlet and Violet have officially passed 28.08 million copies sold, while Sword and Shield have reached 27.08 million copies sold. Both games are the second and third-highest-selling Pokémon games of all time, respectively. This year, Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary with celebrations on Pokémon Day on February 27, though details haven’t been confirmed as of writing. Source: Nintendo official website
