Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix- Anime Casts Chiaki Horan as Onatsu

Coming from the ashes is a brand new casting for the anime adaptation of Shogo Imamura’s novel Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix- . The official website for the series announced yesterday that Chiaki Horan will guest star as Onatsu, a young woman who is childhood friends with Hikoya and Jinsuke. Onatsu will appear in the third episode of Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix- , which will air on January 25. Horan is best known for her presenting work on NHK World shows, including the Songs of Tokyo event, as well as playing Nai in the Mahou Sentai Magiranger series. Horan also voiced Glory Suiryo in the 2018 Okko’s Inn anime film. Shodensha publishes the original  Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix-  novels by Imamura in Japan since March 2017, with 13 volumes published to date. Akita Akita Shoten serializes a manga adaptation with artwork by Shinobu Seguchi since April 2025.  Hiroshi Yasumi directs the anime adaptation at studio SynergySP, with series composition written by Ryusuke Mori, character designs from BILBA and music composed by Yasuharu Takanashi. Amuse Creative Studio is producing the series under their ACS Animation label. Crunchyroll is streaming the series , and describes it as such: Gengo Matsunaga, once known as Phoenix, was the greatest samurai fire-slayer in all of Edo. After leaving fire-slaying, Gengo is approached with an offer from the Shinjo Domain. Encouraged by his wife, Miyuki, he sets out to rebuild a fallen firefighting brigade.
