New sequel Final Destination 7 is officially in development after Final Destination Bloodlines became the highest-grossing installment in the franchise’s history, and New Line may have found its director.
Deadline reports today that the studio is in final talks with Belgian filmmaker Michiel Blanchart to direct.
Blanchart is an up-and-comer behind this year’s propulsive thriller Night Call, the filmmaker’s adrenaline-fueled feature debut (our review), and the breakout horror short “You’re Dead Helene.” The director is also currently adapting that short into a feature length film with producer Sam Raimi.
Final Destination Bloodlines’ co-writer, Lori Evans Taylor, will pen the script for Final Destination 7.
Bloodlines was the sixth installment in the hit franchise, and the first in fourteen years. Each film centers on “Death” hunting down young friends who survive a mass casualty event. The Final Destination franchise was created by Jeffrey Reddick, with the very first installment bringing Death to life on the big screen back in the year 2000, a full 25 years ago.
The sixth film’s massive box office success made Final Destination New Line’s third biggest horror franchise behind the box office juggernauts that are The Conjuring Universe and It movies, so it’s no surprise that momentum is building quickly on this sequel.
Stay tuned for much more on all things Final Destination!
