Over the years, anime classics from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to Lupin the 3rd have been adapted into lavish kabuki performances. The latest title to be getting this treatment will be Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion , as part of the anime's 30th anniversary festivities. Titled Kabuki Kokyokyoku Dai Kyu-ban Evangelion , the performance will take place exclusively at the upcoming EVANGELION:30+; 30th Anniversary of Evangelion event. The three-day celebration will include a multi-part exhibition, fans' market, panels, collaborations and special performances. This kabuki performance will be the capstone of the event, serving as the final performance in the event space's stage area before closing ceremonies. RELATED: EVANGELION: Δ CROSS REFLECTIONS Game Project Announced Up-and-coming kabuki star Kichitaro Kamimura, who also appeared in kabuki productions of Final Fantasy X and Touken Ranbu , will play Shinji Ikari. Sakon Onoe will star opposite Kamimura as Kaworu Nagisa. Kazuhisa Tobe, who penned the aforementioned Lupin the 3rd kabuki adaptation, writes and directs Kabuki Kokyokyoku Dai Kyu-ban Evangelion . Kanjuro Fujima choreographs the production and Fumihiko Yamada composes the music.
