We already knew that the Wayans Brothers will be back to write the upcoming horror spoof sequel Scary Movie 6, which will mark the first time the franchise’s original creators have been involved since Scary Movie 2 way back in 2001. But will Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans also be back on screen to reprise their roles from the first two movies?
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Marlon Wayans confirms that he’ll definitely be back as Shorty in Scary Movie 6, the character he played in Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2.
Marlon Wayans will star alongside Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who of course also both starred in the first two films. Sounds like it’ll be a full-on throwback to the early 2000s!
Wayans teases to EW, “We have plans to bring a few more back.”
“I think you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror has changed, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted,” Wayans tells the outlet. “I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. That’s how we constructed the movie so we could talk about it all.”
Michael Tiddes is directing the franchise’s upcoming sixth installment, releasing on June 12, 2026, with Rick Alvarez writing and producing alongside the Wayans brothers.
The first Scary Movie was released in 2000, just four years after Wes Craven reinvigorated the horror genre with his meta slasher masterpiece, Scream. The film parodied horror movies of the time including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, and the horror-comedy spoof scared up $278 million at the worldwide box office.
The smash hit box office success of that first Scary Movie paved the way for an entire franchise of horror movie spoofs, with five of them in total released between 2000 and 2013.
Only the first two Scary Movie installments were created by the Wayans Brothers, however, with Scary Movie 6 marking their return to the franchise for the first time since 2001.
