Marin’s Cosplay Closet: Completed Costumes Featured in My Dress-Up Darling

Throughout its two seasons, My Dress-Up Darling has shown us quite a variety of different cosplays that Marin has shined in. We’ve seen both her and Wakana’s growth as a team when it comes to taking an idea for a character and applying it to reality for Marin to wear. With the second season having just wrapped up, it’s the perfect time to take a trip down memory lane and focus on all of the major cosplays Marin has worn. From Shizuku to the group Coffin cosplay and everything in between, let’s dive in and look at all of the costumes completed and worn by Marin throughout the series. Shizuku Kuroe – Slippery Girls 2 RELATED: Anime Like My Dress-Up Darling The cosplay that started this whole journey for Marin and Wakana. It’s the thing that brought the two of them together and also pushed them into working as a duo. Given that it was their first collaboration together and it’s Marin’s favorite character, this has to be one of her most cherished possessions (especially since she wears an updated version of it in My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 when Wakana and her meet Amane). Curiously, it would be interesting to see from a character perspective how either Marin or Wakana would change the original version of this cosplay, given that it was their first. Would the design change at all to make it easier for Marin to wear or would Wakana have a new way to work on it entirely? Either way, it’s become a staple for Marin. Black Lobelia – Flower Princess Blaze!! RELATED: The Best Cosplay Tips We’ve Learned From My Dress-Up Darling After starting off as a commissioned cosplay from famous cosplayer Juju for Wakana, this turns into Marin’s first foray into a group cosplay. With the fact that Wakana and Marin were still relative newcomers to the cosplay space, it was extremely beneficial for them to learn from someone like Juju, who’s had a lot of experience in the scene. She was able to provide them with various tips on makeup, hair, and costume prep. This was also Marin’s first villain cosplay, which forced her to figure out new ways to act as the character compared to how she was with her Shizuku cosplay. You can certainly say this was the most beneficial of her early cosplays, given the relationship she was able to form with Juju. Also, one of the photos from this shoot would come back around in Season 2 to make Marin a certain person’s oshi. Liz the Succubus – SuccIDK RELATED: My Dress-Up Darling Stars Hina Suguta and Shoya Ishige Talk Season 2, Cosplay and Why Marin and Gogo Still Make Their Hearts Flutter Compared to the first two outfits, this was probably the most risque for both Wakana and Marin in their cosplay efforts. Marin has a lot more skin exposed here, which is hectic for Wakana in the sense that he’s a teenage boy. On the other hand, given that there are fewer clothes in general, that does mean the process of making this outfit had to be easier for Wakana. Although he probably wasn’t thinking about that when the two of them got put into an interesting situation while shooting photos in a love hotel. Out of all six completed costumes that are featured in the series over the course of the two seasons, this is the one that has the least screen time. Still, it’s another way we’re able to see the duo’s growth as a cosplay team to round out the first season of the series. Arisa Izayoi – We're the Tsukiyono Company RELATED: My Dress-Up Darling's Realistic Depiction of High School Awkwardness The first cosplay of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 sees Marin don one of the staples of cosplay and costumes, the bunny girl outfit. Paired with the suit coat and shooting at a studio that had a gambling aesthetic, it really provided a one-two punch in regard to allowing the photos of Marin to pop and get her further into character. Wakana had to learn how to figure out what to do about his first strapless outfit, which he was able to conquer thanks to Usami, the clerk at the fabric store. Of course, given that bunny girl cosplays do show a bit more skin, poor Wakana was put into a blender when he had to take photos of Marin. This cosplay also doubled as Marin’s Halloween costume that she used when she and Wakana met up with her friends from school for a little get-together. Rei Kogami – The Student Council President is the No. 1 Host RELATED: What Makes Marin and Gojo from My Dress-Up Darling the Perfect Romance Protagonists? For the first time since their initial cosplays, this is probably the outfit Marin and Wakana were under the most pressure to create. Especially Wakana, as he had a large audience for the first time (their class did want to win the beauty pageant, after all). Also, not only was he making the outfit, but he was also doing Marin’s makeup. This cosplay brought about a new set of challenges for the duo as Marin was cosplaying as a character who was trying to pass off as a man. That meant they had to de-feminize her body through the use of slimming clothes, and she also had to learn how to move like a guy so as to not dissuade the illusion she was providing. They were even able to learn about creating colored roses, as that accessory helped accentuate the suit. Everything came together from the outfit, the makeup, and Marin’s acting to allow for their class to win the pageant, and Wakana was able to gain a bunch of new friends. Rose – Coffin Considering how Marin’s cosplays have been up to this point, this was a different experience. Not only was it a big group event, but it was an outfit that Wakana didn’t have to make. Instead, he was focused on helping to make props for the event as a whole. With everyone in the group having the same outfit, it didn’t make sense for Wakana to make an outfit just for Marin in this case. They were still able to work together on her makeup and hair, though. Of course, with the shift in pictures with regard to them posing for parts of the game where the horror aspect comes in, you have to wonder how long it took to clean up all the fake blood from that studio, and if all the fake blood splattered on the girls would even be able to come out of their costumes. Given all of that work that had to be done, it’s probably a good thing Wakana didn’t have to make a costume for Marin this time around.
