Back in 1985, magical girls Creamy Mami and Minky Momo faced off in a featurette aired alongside both girls' feature film releases. 40 years later, the two girls are reuniting in a special event that will include pop-up shops, collab cafés and more "beyond the scope of the original shows." The "MamiMomo" collab kicks off with a new piece of artwork, penned by Fairy Princess Minky Momo animator Hiroshi Watanabe. The art shows Mami (a.k.a. Yuu) in her teen pop star form alongside Momo as seen in the original 1982 series, both wielding their respective magic items. The series marked the first of a run of four annual magical girl series, followed up with Magical Fairy Persia in 1984, Magic Star Magical Emi in 1985 and Magical Idol Pastel Yumi in 1986. In recent years, Mami (voiced by 80s pop star Takako Ohta) has collaborated with modern VTubers and released new remasters and videos for songs from her series. Fairy Princess Minky Momo ran for two series: the first in 1985 and the second in 1991. Crunchyroll currently streams both series , describing the anime thus: As humans lose sight of their dreams, Fenarinarsa, the land of dreams in the sky, is in danger of drifting away from Earth.
