Madoka Magica and Monogatari Series Anime Studio SHAFT Announces 50th Anniversary Exhibition

SHAFT, the studio behind such iconic works as Puella Magi Madoka Magia and Monogatari Series , will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on September 1 of this year. To mark the occasion, the studio will hold an exhibition of their works opening later this year. Details are scarce at this point, with the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account for the event showing only an exhibition logo and basic company details. We do know that the event will be held starting September 1 at Mixalive TOKYO. The entertainment venue has announced that it will be closing in January 2026; this exhibition will be the last event it hosts. The studio released its first entirely original production, the OVA Yume kara, Samenai , in 1987. SHAFT has been producing original animated series since 1995, occasionally with production from studio Gainax for earlier works. Their most recent works include the anime series A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof and opening animation production for the mobile game Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra .
