Live-Action My Hero Academia Film Writer Says Creator Kohei Horikoshi is ‘Very Involved’

Jason Fuchs was recently announced as the screenwriter for Netflix and Legendary’s live-action My Hero Academia film, and Entertainment Weekly caught up with him during promotion for HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry . Fuchs is co-creator and co-showrunner for the episodic prequel to the It films, and he took a moment to field some questions about his work on My Hero Academia and creator Kohei Horikoshi’s involvement.  According to Fuchs, Horikoshi is “very involved” in the adaptation, which makes him “feel really confident that we’re gonna deliver something that fans, like myself, feel great about.”  He adds that Horikoshi provides notes on everything. From treatments to outlines and scenes, “there’s nothing that Kohei doesn’t give notes on, react to [with] thumbs up, thumbs down.” As for where they are in the process, Fuchs notes that they’re still in the “very early” stages. At this point his greatest concern isn’t the live-action aspect, but capturing the right tone and spirit for the characters. He wants to do something that “fans feel respects the canon and the original” while providing an entry point for newcomers.  RELATED: My Hero Academia Live-Action Film Announces Screenwriter Development of the live-action My Hero Academia film was first confirmed in 2018, with Shinsuke Sato (live-action adaptations of Bleach , Death Note , Kingdom , GANTZ and more) still attached to direct.  Crunchyroll streams the collection of  My Hero Academia  anime episodes, specials, movies and more from the franchise, including the new eighth and final season, and describes the series as such: Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal.
