Kyoto Animation’s Sparks of Tomorrow Anime Formally Revealed in First Trailer, 2026 Release

After being announced more than eight years ago, Kyoto Animation presented the first trailer for the TV anime adaptation of Hiro Yuki’s 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku light novel at their Fan Event in Kyoto today, under the title Sparks of Tomorrow in English. Alongside the trailer, a 2026 premiere was revealed, as were the lead staff and cast.  Sparks of Tomorrow Anime Trailer and Visual The lead cast members for Sparks of Tomorrow are: Kihachi Sakamoto voiced by Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro in JUJUTSU KAISEN ) Inako Momokawa  voiced by Sora Amamiya (Chizuru Ichinose in Rent-A-Girlfriend ) Kihachi Sakamoto character visual Inako Momokawa character visual RELATED: Kyoto Animation Graces Us With 2 New Beautifully Animated Commercials Sparks of Tomorrow was first announced for an anime adaptation in July 2018 , one year before the arson attack on the studio which saw the death of multiple animators, including key figures such as Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S1 director Yasuhiro Takemoto, legendary animator Yoshiji Kigami, and chief animation director on the Free! franchise, Futoshi Nishiya. Studio 1, the primary production building for KyoAni, burned down in the attack, with a huge loss of physical materials, though digital files were able to be recovered . This halted production of Sparks of Tomorrow at the time. The original Sparks of Tomorrow light novel written by Hiro Yuki and illustrated by Kazumi Ikeda under Kyoto Animation’s KA Esuma Bunko label. It was released in August 2018 after the announcement of the anime. The anime is directed by Minoru Ota (episode director on many KyoAni titles) in his series directorial debut at Kyoto Animation with series composition written by Tatsuhiko Urahata ( Violet Evergarden ), character designs and chief animation direction by Kohei Okamura ( Free! The Final Stroke ), worldview setting by Takaaki Suzuki ( Violet Evergarden ) and music by video game composer Hitomi Koto. The series will release in 2026. Kyoto Animation describes the series as such: A Tale of Adventure for Boys and Girls Who Dreamed of the Age of Electricity in a World Shrouded in Smoke!  ──This was a little while ago. Kyoto in the early 20th century, having evolved differently from the history we know today.In a world where only steam engines had advanced, the city was shrouded in smoke.  A boy who lost his brother, with whom he had dreamed of the "Age of Electricity," and now lives with deep suspicion. A girl who keeps her dreams for the future and her regrets for her deceased mother hidden in her heart, now living a devout life. The boy and girl meet while seeking the secret of the "20th Century Electrical Catalog," which depicted their dreams. Surpass who you are now and break through the dreams you once had!
