The characters are all friends of the protagonist Kaya who attend the same class as her at Hanamugi Kindergarten. Misaki Kuno (Momo Kawamoto in March Comes In like a Lion ) will voice Saku-chan . The character is described as "strong-willed and sharp-tongued, and she'll slap someone who relentlessly mocks her. She loves scary stories, so she never doubts that Kaya can see spirits and doesn't avoid them. But she hates the dark." Mutsumi Tamura (Kobayashi in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid ) will voice Kenken. The character is described as " a lively, mischievous, naughty boy. He's always picking on Kaya, who stands out from the others. He's constantly saying spiteful things to others, but he also has the honesty to apologize properly when he needs to." Chiemi Tanaka (Rina Tennoji in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club ) will voice Yuzu-chan. The character is described as "cheerful, kind to everyone, and responsible. Though not particularly strong, she seems to possess psychic abilities, sometimes unconsciously seeing spirits or talking to them. She has a younger brother named Kan-chan in the younger class." Additionally, the Kaya-chan Isn't Scary original manga author Yuritaro posted a newly-drawn illustration featuring the three on their official X (formerly Twitter ).
