Homecoming Maki Zen’in strides purposefully toward her family’s compound. Inside, she stops to talk to Naoya , who greets her as warmly as ever by calling her trash and pointing out her ugly scars. Maki’s used to his scorn, however, and continues on her way to the Zen’in vault. She’d convinced Megumi Fushiguro to accept the position as head of the clan despite his misgivings, and he granted her access to obtain the cursed tools inside. Maki encounters her mother next, who shrieks at her to stay out of the vault. As she ignores her shouts, her mother implores her estranged daughter to make her happy that she gave birth to her just this once. Maki proceeds, unlocking and opening the massive doors to the Zen’in vault. Betrayal After the clan had received notice that Satoru Gojo was now considered an accomplice in the Shibuya Incident, its most powerful members decided to take advantage of the situation and kill Megumi, Maki and Mai to prevent any potential claims to the Zen’in clan. In a plan devised by Maki’s father, Ogi, they can frame them as traitors planning to free Gojo and execute them without consequence. When Maki enters the fault, she sees her twin sister, Mai, lying in a pool of blood at their father’s feet. She draws her weapon, a cursed tool she’d retrieved from Juzo Kumiya’s workshop, just before Ogi strikes. He wounds her grievously before telling her that she and Mai were defective failures that caused him to be passed over for head of the clan. He drags away their bleeding bodies, sealing them in a chamber filled with countless cursed spirits. Ogi leaves his children to die. Two Become One Mai crawls to Maki and cradles her face in her hands. Maki opens her good eye to find herself on a beach, her twin sitting beside her. Mai remarks that her cursed technique, Construction , usually can’t create anything substantial because of the toll it takes on her body. Once she creates this one last item for Maki, she’ll die, but she’s willing to do so. Twins are considered one individual in sorcery, effectively splitting their power in half. As a result, Mai’s cursed energy and technique are weak, while Maki’s supernatural physical prowess never comes close to that of Toji Fushiguro , who was also born without cursed energy. As long as Mai exists, Maki can’t reach her full potential. Maki begs her to stay, but Mai’s mind is made up. She gives Maki a cursed sword created with her technique and tells her that she’s taking all of their cursed energy with her – fulfilling Maki’s Heavenly Pact and endowing her with massive strength and speed on par with Toji. Mai asks Maki for just one thing in return: destroy it all. Promise Ogi senses the cursed spirits have been exorcised and turns to fight Maki. She splits his head in half and keeps walking. An alarm rings across the compound and the Zen’in guards mobilize. As dozens of guards surround her, Maki’s thoughts turn to Mai and the promise she made. It’s time to begin. Maki slays every member of the Kukuru guard, filling the room with blood as heads and body parts fly. The strongest sorcerers of the clan, known as the Hei – Chojuro Zen’in, Jinichi Zen’in and Ranta Zen’in – use their techniques against her, but Maki effortlessly kills them all. Only Naoya Zen’in, the head of the Hei, still stands in her way. Naoya remembers Toji, and as he lands hit after hit on Maki faster than the eye can see, he yells that she’s not like him. Maki counts each punch as Naoya’s speed increases. Finally, she plants her feet in the ground and waits. Finishing What She Started Naoya’s more than happy to fight head-on. As he prepares to punch through her at full speed, Maki takes a swing of her own. She’d counted the “frames” of Naoya’s cursed technique because she could now see each one. Her strike shatters his skull. Maki finds her mother inside the house, who backs away in fear as her daughter brings down her sword. Moments later, Naoya staggers inside, and Maki and Mai’s mother finds him. She stabs Naoya, the man who tormented her and her daughters, as her life bleeds away. Her last thoughts are sunshine-filled memories of her daughters and how glad she is that she gave birth to them. As Maki carries her twin’s body out of the compound, Momo runs up the path – she’d warned Mai not to go. Momo begins sobbing as she realizes her friend is gone. Maki entrusts Mai to her and leaves to complete the destruction of the Zen’in clan. What’s next for Maki? Stay tuned to J UJUTSU KAISEN to find out, right here on Crunchyroll!
