To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the theatrical release, the 2000 anime movie Jin-Roh will be restored in 4K and feature Dolby Atmos sound. The original version of Jin-Roh was released in Japan on June 3, 2000. The film featured an original story and screenplay by Mamoru Oshii, direction and character design by Hiroyuki Okiura, and production by Production I.G. For Production I.G, it was their final theatrical anime film produced using traditional cel animation. This is also part of the fictional postwar history “Kerberos Saga” created by Oshii. The saga also includes the live-action films The Red Spectacles (1987) and Stray Dog: Kerberos Panzer Cops (1991), both of which Oshii directed, as well as the manga Kerberos Panzer Cop (1988), for which Kamui Fujiwara handled the artwork. The restored film, featuring 4K film scans and 4K remastering from the original 35mm film negatives alongside Dolby Atmos sound, will be released on March 25, 2026, as a two-disc set containing a 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray and a Blu-ray Disc. The set also includes extras such as theatrical trailers and a booklet, along with a three-sided case featuring a newly-drawn illustration by director Okiura. Additionally, a revival screening of the 4K restored version will be shown at 14 theaters nationwide in Japan starting March 6, 2026. At the venues, the 4K restored set will be sold ahead of general release. But a group called "the Sect" is staging demonstrations and challenging the government's martial law. Constable Fuse of the Capital Police's Special Unit is on a mission to stop a Sect demonstration when he encounters a girl in the sewers under Tokyo. When he fails to shoot as ordered, he is put on trial, questioned, and "re-conditioned" as a soldier. The dead girl haunts him, both in his dreams and in the face of her sister, whom Fuse has befriended. But Fuse has made himself a target for some very powerful men.
