Japan Box Office: Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback Movie Ranks 2nd in 6th Weekend

After ruling Japanese box office for five consecutive weekends since release on April 18, Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback finally lost the number one spot to Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning , the latest eighth installment in the Tome Cruise-starring Mission: Impossible live-action film series, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha . In its sixth weekend of May 23-25, the 28th Detective Conan/Case Closed anime feature film ranked second for the first time with 376 million yen (2.63 million USD) on 255,000 admissions, 27.2% drop from last weekend , bringing its total to 12.8 billion yen (89.67 million USD) on 8.84 million admissions. It now ranks #29 in Japan's box office ranking of all-time , surpassing Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999. Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional , a new live-action film adaptation of an episode from Hirohiko Araki's Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe manga series, opened in 337 theaters on May 23 and earned 259 million yen (1.82 million USD) on 177,000 admissions to make a fourth-place debut. The opening weekend gross was 82.2% of that of the previous first film in the Issei Takahashi-starring live-action series, Rohan at the Louvre ( Rohan au Louvre ) in 2023. At a Confessional ranked #3 in Filmarks' first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.98/5.0 based on 2,631 reviews. The live-action film adaptation of Akiko Higashimura's ( Princess Jellyfish , Tokyo Tarareba Girls ) autobiographical josei manga series Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey (known as Kakukaku Shikajika in Japan) went down one position to fifth in its second weekend. The film's official website reported on Monday that the film earned over 100 million yen (701,100 USD) in its second Saturday-Sunday weekend, 20% down from its two-day opening weekend, and that the film's cumulative total gross had reached 404.8 million yen (2.84 million USD) on 300,000 admissions. The two-week gross was 115% of the ten-day gross of the 2021 film Jigoku no Hanazono by the same director (Kazuaki Seki) and leading actor (Mei Nagano), also distributed by Warner Brothers in Japan. In its third weekend, Uta no Prince-sama The Movie: TABOO NIGHT XXXX , the latest third concert film in the Uta no Prince-sama anime franchise, ranked #7, one place down from last weekend. HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- , the first feature film from the rap battle-themed HYPNOSISMIC project, has disappeared from the top 10 since its ninth weekend of April 18-20 but still ranked #11 in its latest 14th weekend according to Oricon News . The fourth of the six-chapter Princess Principal Crown Handler film series opened in 48 theaters in Japan on May 23. While not appearing in the overall top 10 or the mini-theatre ranking , it ranked #2 in Filmarks' first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.05/5.0 based on 130 reviews, behind only Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning .
