James Wan’s Atomic Monster Acquires YA Thriller Novel ‘The Thrashers’ for Series Adaptation

James Wan’s Atomic Monster has acquired the rights to Julie Soto’s bestselling YA psychological thriller novel The Thrashers for television, Deadline reports.

Following the competitive situation, the search is underway for a writer to adapt the novel as a TV series.

The story revolves around the eponymous Thrashers, the elite friend group at New Helvetia High. They’re everything everyone wants to be.

Jodi Dillon was never meant to be one of them. Julian, Lucy, Paige, and the infamous Zack Thrasher are rich, sophisticated, and love attention. Jodi feels out of place, but Zack’s her childhood best friend, so she’s in.

When Emily Mills, who desperately wanted to be a Thrasher, dies, the whispers about the Thrashers begin. As Emily’s journal surfaces, detectives close in, and Jodi faces an impossible choice: betray her friends or protect herself.

But as eerie messages and strange occurrences escalate, it becomes clear―Emily isn’t done with them yet.

The Thrashers is so dear to my heart, and it’s a dream of mine to bring it to television,” Soto said. “I am so excited to work with the Atomic Monster team, and to trust them to bring these characters to life.”

Published in May via Wednesday Books, The Thrashers was an immediate New York Times and USA Today bestseller. Soto’s previous books include bestselling romance novels Not Another Love Song, Forget Me Not, and Rose in Chains.

Atomic Monster’s recent TV work includes “Teacup” on Peacock and the docuseries “True Haunting,” which just debuted on Netflix. Upcoming projects include “The Copenhagen Test” for Peacock and “56 Days” for Prime Video.
