This summer in Japan will see Takahata Isao Exhibition – The Man Who Planted Japanese Animation open at Tokyo’s Azabudai Hills Gallery, showcasing the production works of one half of Studio Ghibli’s creative genius. What’s more, for the first time ever, the layout drawing of the IJN Heavy Cruiser Maya, drawn by Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno for Grave of the Fireflies, will be on display along with the finished harmony cels, which combine the Maya background art with the character cel. Each visitor who goes to the exhibition on a weekday will receive one of five paper cases that have an insert of Takahata drawn by manga artist Hisaichi Ishii, best known for his series Nono-chan , which was adapted into My Neighbors the Yamadas .
