How to Watch JUJUTSU KAISEN in Order (So Far)

While most of us probably wouldn’t eat a cursed finger in order to save a guy we just met, Yuji Itadori is just built different. In a way, everything about JUJUTSU KAISEN feels like it's built different. Based on Gege Akutami’s manga series, JUJUTSU KAISEN is a dark shonen story full of memorable characters, hard lessons, and tragic outcomes that you won’t see coming. It’s also, interestingly enough, told out of order… kinda. After the first season, we go back in time not just once with the movie ( JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 ), but twice with the beginning of JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 , getting details we didn’t know about characters we’ve already met, adding a layer of unexpected context to the anime series as a whole. Because of this, you may be wondering how to go about watching JUJUTSU KAISEN in order. Don’t worry, this guide will help answer that for you. We’ll go over all the JUJUTSU KAISEN arcs so far, then, at the end, we’ll put them all in chronological order. JUJUTSU KAISEN Watch Order JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1 Fearsome Womb Arc Vs. High school student Yuji Itadori wakes up to see that he’s tied to a chair, sitting before a man named Satoru Gojo. With a smile on his face, Gojo tells our pink-haired protagonist that he’s scheduled to be executed. Why? Well, after a quick, episode-long flashback, we see that Yuji swallowed a cursed object in an attempt to help Megumi Fushiguro in the middle of a supernatural battle unlike anything he’s ever seen. The object is one of the fingers of the terrifying Ryomen Sukuna, which has made Yuji the host of the devastating curse. Instead of letting him be executed, Gojo proposes a different idea: find the rest of Sukuna’s fingers, have Yuji swallow them, and then execute him. Yuji, being the good shonen protagonist that he is, agrees since he feels it’ll keep others safe. From there, he’s introduced to JUJUTSU KAISEN ’s world of curses, curse techniques and sorcerers, meeting new allies like Nobara Kugisaki as he (and Nobara and Megumi) begin their time at Tokyo Jujutsu High, facing all kinds of unbelievable challenges (like the womb mentioned in the arc name) while other villains, like Suguro Geto, plan on making their move. Vs. Mahito Arc (Episodes 9 – 13) As Yuji continues his training as a Jujutsu Sorcerer under the tutelage of Kento Nanami, he meets a new friend named Junpei Yoshino. Junpei, who has been bullied at school, has the misfortune of meeting Mahito, one of the curses working with Geto. As Mahito manipulates Junpei, Yuji is forced into a heartbreaking confrontation with his new friend. Can he take on a curse who seems to delight in human misery? Everyone breaks off into several group battles to test their skills against each other, only to have the event interrupted by Hanami, a tree-like curse that pushes the students to their limits. Hanami is just a distraction, though, as Mahito makes his move to steal Sukuna’s fingers and whatever other curses he can get his hands on. RELATED: Why I Want to Be JUJUTSU KAISEN’s Nobara Kugisaki When I Grow Up Death Painting Arc (Episodes 22 – 24) JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1 ends with Yuji, Megumi and Nobara investigating a series of deaths tied to Saitama Urami East Junior High, which is where Megumi used to go to school. When Geto and Mahito enact one of the Death Paintings that they stole, the trio from Tokyo Jujutsu High each face off against deadly foes. However, each of them proves to be capable of holding their own, showing off the hard work they’ve been putting in this season. JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 RELATED: 5 Things To Know Before You See JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 Yuji Itadori isn’t the first time Satoru Gojo’s told someone that they’re going to be executed. Taking place before JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 has a similar introduction. In this prequel movie, we meet Yuta Okkotsu, a high school student who is scheduled for execution in the same way Yuji was at the beginning of his story. Just like Yuji, Gojo gives Yuta an alternative option, but unlike Yuji, Yuta is ready to die. It turns out Yuta has a cursed spirit named Rika, a childhood friend who has been tied to him since her tragic death. Rika is extremely overprotective of Yuta, immediately going after anyone who hurts him. Gojo convinces Yuta to come to Tokyo Jujutsu High, where he meets first-year students Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda (who are second-years in JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1). As he works to get the hang of things, he (and the rest of the first-years) end up having to face Geto. Here, we learn that he was a former student of Tokyo Jujutsu High and friends with Gojo… until he defected and massacred several (and I mean SEVERAL ) people during a mission. Now, Geto is hoping to get Yuta to join him so he can make use of Rika. Yuta has a big decision to make, and an even bigger enemy to face if he refuses Geto’s offer. JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc (Episodes 25 – 29) We’re going back in time once again in the second season, this time to Gojo and Geto’s school days. Taking place before JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 1 and JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 , the two get a mission that’ll change their lives forever. Gojo and Geto have to retrieve the Star Plasma Vessel, an individual that Master Tengen must merge with every 500 years. The vessel, a teenage girl named Riko Amanai, already knows what’s destined for her, and it's up to Gojo and Geto to protect her from two different groups who are out to kill her. One of the groups hires Toji Fushiguro, who proves to be one of the deadliest forces that Gojo and Geto have ever faced. The outcome of the mission leads to Geto’s current mindset in JUJUTSU KAISEN , leading to his devastating separation with Gojo and everything he’s done in the series so far. The Shibuya Incident is probably one of JUJUTSU KAISEN ’s most talked-about arcs and is one full of intense battles, painful losses and a giant question mark on how our heroes will get themselves out of this one. Geto enacts his plan on Halloween night in Shibuya, a giant veil trapping thousands in the city. As the people call on Gojo, several Jujutsu Sorcerer groups split up to handle everything that’s going on in Shibuya while Gojo steps through the veil to answer the call. The action never stops in this JUJUTSU KAISEN arc as everyone finds themselves in a fight for their lives. From the shocking reunion between Gojo and Geto, to Sukuna suddenly taking center stage, or Megumi summoning his ultimate shikigami, and Nobara standing against Mahito, to say that nothing will ever be the same again after Shibuya is an understatement.
