Horror Graphic Novel ‘The Upturned Stone’ Film Adaptation in the Works

Halloween-set horror graphic novel The Upturned Stone is getting a film adaptation.

Creator Scott Hampton (Batman: Night Cries, Wicked: The Graphic Novel) is adapting his own work into a screenplay.

Anky Cyriaque is set to direct and produce under his Story Is King Pictures banner.

First published in 1993, The Upturned Stone blends horror with coming-of-age drama to explores themes of innocence lost, buried guilt, and the lingering power of childhood trauma.

Set on Halloween 1969, the story follows four boys whose lives are forever changed when they discover an abnormally large pumpkin. After baking it into a pie, the boys begin having chilling dreams that unravel the mystery of a ghost, a serial killer, and a supernatural quest for justice.

“Scott’s work has always been hauntingly beautiful,” Cyriaque commented.

“Anky and I have known each other for years, and I’ve always admired his cinematic vision and it feels like the right time to join creative forces,” Hampton added.

Now in pre-production, The Upturned Stone is slated to enter principal photography in late 2026. Stay tuned for updates.
