Holy Grail for ‘Predator: Badlands’ Team Is Getting Arnold Schwarzenegger for One More Movie

Does Arnold Schwarzenegger ever plan on returning to the Predator franchise? Arnold’s character Dutch was of course the sole survivor of the ultimate hunter in the original 1987 action-horror classic, but the actor hasn’t been seen in the franchise since. His character, however, did make a surprise appearance in the alternate ending to Predator: Killer of Killers.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, Predator: Badlands), the animated Killer of Killers was released onto Hulu and Disney+ in June, and it was a month later that a brand new cut of the movie was uploaded to the streaming services. The new epilogue scene features Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch as well as Danny Glover’s Lieutenant Mike Harrigan from Predator 2 and Amber Midthunder’s Naru from Prey, firmly connecting the various different storylines.

Trachtenberg teased at Comic-Con over the summer, “The fun is that now we have the end of Prey set up something, and then there’s this, and I love the slow play of it all. I think it’s cool, rather than smushing everything together inside one movie right away, we can really be elegant with our storytelling and hopefully aspire to that. So, it is not a setup for what’s in Badlands, but it is a setup for what could happen afterward.”

But there’s a big difference between an animated Dutch and an actual appearance from Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new Predator movie. Chatting with Deadline, Trachtenberg and Badlands producer Ben Rosenblatt make it clear that they’d love to make it happen.

“Obviously, the holy grail of Predator movies would be getting Arnold back in there,” Rosenblatt said. “And it’s always been something in the back of our minds that it would be really great to see him come back to this franchise that he’s made iconic, and that’s made him iconic.”

The producer continues, “Arnold and Dan have met a couple of times now. He’s been really interested in what we’re doing, he’s a real fan of what we’ve done so far, from what I understand. And we’re really excited. After Badlands, we’ll see and have more conversations.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to do something with Arnold, because that would be awesome.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn’t appeared in the Predator franchise since the original 1987 movie. He turned down a proposed appearance in Shane Black’s 2018 film The Predator.
