Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Trailer – The Monster Comes Alive in Theaters This Month, On Netflix in November

“My maker told his tale, and I will tell you mine.”

There are two sides to every story, and the monster shares his in the trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein.

The adaptation of Mary Shelley‘s genre-defining 1818 novel opens in select theaters on October 17 before streaming on Netflix November 7.

The film stars Oscar Isaac (Dune) as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) as Frankenstein’s monster, Mia Goth (MaXXXine) as Elizabeth Lavenza, and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) as Dr. Pretorius.

Brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

This iteration has its origins in the Crimean War, a puzzle pieced together out of the frozen bodies of soldiers found on a shattered battlefield. “He’s working with a bunch of mutilated corpses,” del Toro tells Netflix. “This is a resurrected soldier out of a mass grave, basically.”

Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (“Ahsoka”), David Bradley (Harry Potter), Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”) round out the cast.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “There’s no question that Frankenstein is absolutely breathtaking, with imagery and set pieces that instantly embed themselves in your memory. It showcases del Toro’s strength as a filmmaker, creating immersive worlds that enhance what he does best: championing monsters and their tragic humanity instead of using them to scare us.
