Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is headed our way this Halloween season, and as we recently learned, Netflix will be releasing the film in theaters in select locations.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie first comes to select theaters October 17, with the Netflix premiere to follow on November 7, 2025. Additionally, Deadline now reports this week, the film will be playing big and loud in IMAX theaters at select locations.
The bad news? It sounds like the IMAX release is VERY limited.
Deadline reports, “IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said the big screen exhibitor will be showing Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein for a limited run at a small number of locations. He didn’t give a number but Deadline hears it will be a quite limited footprint of about 10 screenings.”
Oscar Isaac (Dune) stars in Del Toro’s movie as mad scientist Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) as Frankenstein’s monster, Mia Goth (MaXXXine) as Elizabeth Lavenza, and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) as Dr. Pretorius.
The film follows brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein, who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
Meagan Navarro writes in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein yields a sprawling emotional saga that’s impeccably crafted, but one that strips down much of the horror in a relatively faithful but overlong retelling that champions its empathetic Creature.”
“There’s no question that Frankenstein is absolutely breathtaking, with imagery and set pieces that instantly embed themselves in your memory,” Meagan’s review continues. “It showcases del Toro’s strength as a filmmaker, creating immersive worlds that enhance what he does best: championing monsters and their tragic humanity instead of using them to scare us. With Frankenstein, he delivers the most heartrending and soulful depiction of the Creature yet.”
