Ahead of Borderlands 4 landing this fall, 2K and Gearbox Software have released a new trailer detailing the story for the upcoming installment of the looter shooter series.
The new trailer explains that the being who rules Kairos, known as the Timekeeper, implants his subjects with a spine-grafted cybernetic device known as a Bolt to subjugate the populace. Soon after crash-landing, the Vault Hunters are arrested and forcibly affixed with the device, trapping them on Kairos.
The Timekeeper and his Order are the ultimate superpower on Kairos, ruling from the impenetrable fortress city known as Dominion City. When Pandora’s former moon Elpis arrived in Kairos’ orbit, it resulted in cataclysmic destruction. The Timekeeper in response locked down the city and sent his Commanders to deal with the fallout firsthand. Now, the Timekeeper watches over Kairos from the safety of his tower while his Commanders maintain his Order.
You must travel across Kairos and ignite the revolution against the Timekeeper. That involves you and up to three other players in co-op action blasting your way through mechanical monstrosities, bloodthirsty bandits, and vicious beasts, with new traversal mechanics like: double jumping, gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more.
Borderlands 4 is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on September 12, followed by a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2025.
