His blackened, ruined hands send shocks of pain through his body with every movement without his gloves on. He walks out of the bathroom and gasps as he sees Riyo lying on his bed. Her room is above his, she explains, and she could hear him in pain. She came in through the window to check on him. Rudo mumbles an apology, but she isn’t mad. RELATED: Gachiakuta and the Importance of Anger Later, Enjin and Gris peek in on the Cleaners’ resident artist, who’s rocking out and hard at work on Rudo’s full face mask. Corvus explains to Rudo that since he’ll need the mask to go into No Man’s Land, they’ll have to finish other preparations before they can set out. He tells Rudo that there’s a Giver who will, in essence, cast a protective spell on him. He’s based in Canvas Town, the City of Graffiti, and the Cleaners are going to go visit him. The Team Assembles The full team who will accompany Rudo to find the strange woman in No Man’s Land gathers together. The team consists of Givers Riyo, Zanka, Delmon, Tamsy and, of course, Enjin. Three Supporters, Follo, Gris and Tomme, are also coming along. The large Delmon yells in a voice as big as he is that he heard Rudo’s story and he likes his passion. Enjin asks Delmon to give a motivational speech, which he delivers with Gusto. (Zanka wisely puts in earplugs before it begins). With a cheer, the team gets ready to set out to Canvas Town. Rudo notices the city itself is covered by a large dome, which Tamsy tells him is there to keep the “trash rain” from the Sphere from falling on anyone. As they walk up to the city entrance, they encounter two men who are blocked from entering by an invisible wall. The Cleaners, however, walk right in. Enjin explains to Rudo that the Giver painted a spell that prevents anyone with bad intentions from entering. City of Art Canvas Town is literally a canvas for its residents to celebrate their freedom to be creative. Enjin tries to explain how the Giver’s ability works; in effect, the artist draws a spell that puts his feelings or intentions on the surface he’s painting on. His vital instrument is a rare type that’s passed down from user to user. The mayor of the town, eyes downcast, greets the Cleaners. He’s sorry to tell them that the Giver, Gob, died that morning. The Cleaners pay their respect at his bedside, his face covered in a sheet. RELATED: DUSTCELL Releases Gachiakuta Anime Ending Song Collab Music Video Rudo remembers Gob and his passion . The mayor tells the Cleaners that Gob, in his eagerness to paint, went out to polluted zones without a mask too many times. He succumbed to body pollution. He had already chosen his successor for his vital instrument; whoever inherits it will awaken their power as a Giver. Gob chose a young boy named Remlin Tysark, who sits crying next to Gob’s body. No More Tears The mayor worries it’s a lot of pressure for such a young spellcaster, and begins to cry as he remembers the joy Gob felt when he painted. Enjin remembers the same thing about Gob’s visits to Cleaners HQ, and tells Remlin that they’ll visit again later. Suddenly, the boy leaps up and yells, “No more!” Remlin is done being sad. He grabs the pen from the mayor and runs up to the roof. The Cleaners stand in shock. RELATED: Gachiakuta Quiz: What Kind of Vital Instrument Would You Have? Enjin, Rudo and the mayor follow Remlin. He intends to celebrate so that Gob can enjoy the afterlife. Remlin casts his first spell with joyful paint strokes, transforming cans of spray paint into endless fireworks. They burst over the city and light up the faces of the town’s residents. Inspired, they begin to add new art to the walls. The mayor apologizes with a smile that it might be a while before they can get the protective spell, but Enjin doesn’t mind. What’s the Cleaners’ next stop?
