Based on the manga by Kei Urana and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou, Gachiakuta is the story of Rudo, a boy from the slums of an idyllic floating city known as the Sphere. Framed for a crime he didn’t commit and tossed into the rancid garbage pit far below the Sphere, Rudo will do whatever it takes to survive in the hellish depths so he can take revenge on the people who sent him there. GACHIAKUTA RECAP Gachiakuta Episode 5 Recap Summary The Gachiakuta After Show Podcast Episode 5 Previous Gachiakuta recaps Welcoming Party Back at Cleaners HQ, Zanka walks through the quiet halls. He hears a raucous party in the mess hall and goes in to investigate, where he finds Supporters and Givers alike partaking in pizza, drinks and games to celebrate the arrival of a new recruit. Rudo’s also at the party, but he’s been moping since the trash beast raid the previous day. Riyo tells Zanka that the weird trash beast used a vital instrument as its core, but shrugs and says it’s the higher-ups’ job to figure out what it means. The boy’s upset that he doesn’t have control of his powers and needed Gris and Riyo to save him, just like Regto used to do. Gris thanks him, to Rudo’s surprise. Most Cleaners don’t respect Supporters, he tells the new recruit, so he appreciates Rudo not looking down on them. The Path Forward The veteran Supporter asks Rudo to forget everything else for a moment and asks what he’s always wanted to do. The boy doesn’t have an answer. Gris suggests he focus on that to find his best path forward. He gives the boy an affectionate pat on his head, and Rudo’s eyes fill with tears. Rudo gets emotional again as he looks at his new friends, then stands to join them. While they eat, a passionate graffiti artist named Gob gets to work on one of the walls. Inside. With no windows open. Not a great idea. Elsewhere, one of Rudo’s kidnappers lies bloodied on the floor. He asks his tormentor to leave him alone now that he’s shared everything he can about the Sphereite. Instead, the purple-eyed madman ends his life. On the Job Back at HQ, Semiu answers the Cleaners' request hotline. She gathers a crew and gives them the mission briefing. A merchant was attacked by a trash beast, she says, and it stole their “cargo” – a Sphereite. Gris gives Rudo the choice to get involved, and he agrees to go on the job. As they walk to the meeting point, Follo teases Gris about praying to a talisman before every mission. She’s the merchant who hired them, and she offers to guide them to the trash beast’s lair. Rudo peppers her with questions, but the Sphereite was unconscious when she found them, so she doesn’t have any answers for him. The group follows her, but Zanka can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right. He leads the way into the building the merchant points them toward when the ground suddenly gives way, and the Cleaners fall to a level below. Marionettes Two Raiders emerge from the darkness and lay claim to Rudo. Gris and Follo get the boy to safety, leaving the Raiders for Zanka to handle alone. The woman gives the Cleaner a wicked grin and says they just want to ask Rudo some questions. She uses her vital instrument to summon a legion of mud marionettes, and the fight begins. The man hides among the mud puppets and strikes Zanka again and again from his hidden positions; all the while, the woman continues taunting the Cleaner. He admits he’s not used to fighting people, but he knows his vital instrument inside and out. He uses it to locate the hidden Raider, then knocks him out with one swing of his staff. He takes out the woman effortlessly next, and the marionettes melt away. Zanka doesn’t hear one more Raider approach him from behind, however – the deadly, purple-eyed man searching for Rudo… Can Zanko take on the mysterious man all by himself?
