Gachiakuta Episode 12 Recap, “Something Like a Curse”

Based on the manga by Kei Urana and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou, Gachiakuta is the story of Rudo, a boy from the slums of an idyllic floating city known as the Sphere. Framed for a crime he didn’t commit and tossed into the rancid garbage pit far below the Sphere, Rudo will do whatever it takes to survive in the hellish depths so he can take revenge on the people who sent him there. GACHIAKUTA RECAP Gachiakuta Episode 12 Recap Summary The Gachiakuta After Show Podcast Episode 12 Previous Gachiakuta recaps Amo’s Fans Delmon is lost in the memory of his wife and the house they once shared together. He tended to their plants tirelessly and promised her that they’d have a home covered in flowers one day. In the real world, Zanka and Tamsy face their team members, who are trapped in memories that make them see Amo as someone they loved. Tamsy summons his vital instrument, Tokushin. It’s a distaff, used in weaving as a spindle, and the Giver uses it to bind his attacking teammates in tight ropes. Tamsy spins the distaff to trap the Cleaners in a coil of rope where they won’t hurt themselves, but they continue to strain against the ropes when Amo calls to them for help. Gris takes the chance to check in on Tomme, who continues to monitor the unconscious Enjin. They’re all OK. Right Round Tamsy has had enough. The coiled rope begins to spin like a top and crashes through the floor. It breaks through floor after floor and the trapped Cleaners fall along with it. They land hard on the ground below. Rudo is impaled by a piece of rebar and Delmon lies unconscious under large blocks of stone and rubble. Amo mocks the Cleaners for showing their violent true colors. Zanka is aghast that Tamsy would hurt their own teammates and turns to see Tamsy with his face hidden in shadow. Then the Cleaner blinks and, sounding like his usual self, asks Zanka if he’d forgotten about that thing they did. He had! The spell saved them, Tamsy says, and Enjin agrees amiably from above. Not only was Enjin just fine thanks to the spell, but he also stole one of Amo’s boots while she was distracted. Heartbroken Meanwhile, back at the Cleaners headquarters, Corvus checks on Semiu. She’s lost in thought as she stares at a photo of Rudo in the Cleaners’ roster. She saw something dark inside him, she tells the Cleaners’ leader. As Amo demands her boot back, Tomme tells Gris that Enjin had just been pretending to be unconscious until the right moment. Remlin’s spell had protected him from Delmon’s attack. With the removal of Amo’s vital instrument, her ability stops working. Delmon and Riyo realize that their loved ones aren’t really there, and their hearts break over their loss all over again. She’s too dangerous to be left alone, but he doesn’t see much choice. When she begins to complain that they messed up her house, Rudo walks toward her… and something inside him snaps. Darkness Inside Rudo punches Amo in the face without holding back. He doesn’t stop swinging until he’s pulled away by his teammates. Amo’s still alive, but unconscious. Gris scolds Rudo for hitting a woman, but the angry Cleaner says that doesn’t matter. He’s not going to stand by and let her hurt the people he cares for, even if she’s a woman. The other Givers are silent, except Enjin, who asks how they’re supposed to get the information now. Rudo’s eyes go wide when he realizes his rage made him forget why they were there. The young Cleaner is dismayed that he returned to his old violent ways, like how he used to lash out on the Sphere before he learned patience. Enjin admits his own fault, that he finds it hard to deal with complicated people. The only way to go is up, Enjin says. Inside, Tomme apologizes to Amo as she treats her injuries. She tells her that she loves talking about romance and she’d be happy to chat. Amo appreciates the kindness and says Tomme would make a good mom, like her own was. She says it’s because of her mother that she saw the angel that goes between the Sphere and the Ground… Who or what is the angel that Amo saw?
