Implicit Conversions isn’t shadow dropping this time. The upcoming port of Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix will launch on Febuary 27 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. No word yet on the eventual physical release from publisher Limited Run Games, who made the announcement regarding the digital release.
Originally developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment and released for the PlayStation back in 2001, Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix is set two years before the events of the original game. The player delves into the origins of the original cast of three mercenaries –Hana Tsu-Vachel, Royce Glas, Deke Decourt– and the enigmatic newcomer Rain Qin, in a story that blends high-tech espionage with ancient Chinese mythology and the supernatural.
A new terrifying disease known as EINDS (Environmentally Induced Nucleotides Degeneration Syndrome) is rapidly spreading, having already claimed over one billion victims. The disease directly attacks the human cell DNA, with no known cure. Crime flourishes, and scientists fear that the DNA manipulation may lead to unforeseen disasters that would eventually destroy mankind. The adventure takes players through a futuristic Hong Kong, the walled city of Xi’an, the lost tomb of the first emperor of China, and into the mountain island of the immortals, Penglai Shan.
New in this remaster are quality-of-life features including Save States, Rewind, Widescreen mode, Achievements, and CRT filters to ensure an authentic experience.
Released last year, the remastered Fear Effect is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
