Exclusive Look at Florian Bertmer’s ‘Revenge of the Creature’ Design from Universal Monsters Art Show

CODA, in conjunction with Sideshow Collectibles and Universal Studios, are presenting an official Universal Monsters art show.

Two concurrent exhibitions of all-new artwork will open at Celebrity Authentics Hollywood in Los Angeles and Canopy Gallery in Austin, Texas, this Friday, October 24.

We have an exclusive look at Florian Bertmer‘s Revenge of the Creature design, along with its 3D variant, below.

“Every monster maker owes a debt to Millicent Patrick, undersung designer of the Gill-Man,” Bertmer tells Bloody Disgusting. “She managed the unusual feat of binding opposing forces into a singular scaly creation: a cold-blooded monster with warm blood in his heart.”

Bertmer continues, “For my first time creating a 3-D poster, I had a blast exploring the possibilities. I owe a debt to the legendary Neal Adams whose classic 3-D monster posters provided a map.”

Drawing from nearly a century of cinematic iconography, the exhibition explores how archetypes like Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon continue to reflect our shifting cultural anxieties and desires.

Represented across a wide range of mediums and aesthetics including oil painting, sculpture and digital illustration, this exhibition pays homage to the gothic imagination through a distinctly 21st-century visual language, revealing how these figures persist not as relics of early cinema but as evolving symbols of empathy, alienation, and the search for identity in contemporary culture.

Participating artists include Martin Ansin, Florian Bertmer, Dani Blazquez, Olivia de Berardinis, Ruiz Burgos, Jason Edmiston, Eelus, Bob Eggleton, Francesco Francavilla, Katie Gamb, Ryan Heshka, Chris Koehler, Caia Koopman, Tula Lotay, Dustin Myers, Randy Ortiz, Bruce Parker, Gary Pullin, Dan Quintana, Vincenzo Riccardi, Joao Ruas, Greg Ruth, Sad Salesman, Akiko Stehrenberger, Tyler Stout, Mike Sutfin, Lisa Swirling, Eric Tan, Matt Taylor, Geoff Trapp, Sachin Teng, Chris Valentine, Brian M. Viveros, and Xue Wang.

Coda is also presenting a screening of 1932’s The Mummy at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on October 31, accompanied by a limited edition screen print by Francesco Francavilla.

The Los Angeles show runs through November 2, while the Austin gallery closes after October 26.
