Eva Green Joins ‘Wednesday’ Season 3 As Aunt Ophelia

Wednesday” Season 2 teased the introduction Morticia Addams’ mysterious sister, Ophelia Frump, and we now know that Eva Green will take on the role in the upcoming third season.

Green previously collaborated with “Wednesday” executive producer Tim Burton on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Dark Shadows, and Dumbo.

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of ‘Wednesday’ as Aunt Ophelia,” Green told Netflix. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckooness to the Addams family.”

“Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia,” added creators/showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. “We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”

Although she wasn’t seen until the final episode of Season 2 — and only from behind, wearing a flower crown and scribbling “Wednesday must die” on a wall — the specter of Aunt Ophelia has long loomed over Wednesday.

Throughout the second season, Morticia describes her sister as missing after she lost control of her powers as a Raven; a disturbing parallel to Wednesday’s loss of psychic abilities. When Morticia hands Wednesday Ophelia’s old journal at the end of Season 2, Wednesday’s powers come firing back in the form of a dreadful vision: Ophelia locked away in a dungeon-like room in Grandmama Hester’s mansion.

“Ophelia has been gone a long time,” Millar said of the Season 2 cliff-hanger. “It’s left a hole in Morticia’s life and a lot of unanswered questions. The reemergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb.”

Returning cast includes Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen.

Netflix’s #1 most watched series, “Wednesday” premiered in 2022 and returned earlier this year. Stay tuned for more details on Season 3.

In the original “The Addams Family” TV series, Morticia Addams actress Carolyn Jones also played Ophelia Frump.
