Ethan Hawke Returns as The Grabber in ‘Black Phone 2’ Featurette

“It’s interesting trying to play the dead.”

Ethan Hawke‘s return as The Grabber is the focus of the new Black Phone 2 featurette below.

“The scares are so much more extreme this time around,” promises co-star Madeleine McGraw.

The horror sequel opens in theaters on October 17 from Blumhouse and Universal.

As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, his headstrong 15-year-old sister, Gwen, begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.

Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history.

Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.

In addition to Hawke and McGraw, Mason Thames, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies reprise their roles from the 2021 film.

Demián Bichir (The Nun), Arianna Rivas (A Working Man), Maev Beaty (Beau is Afraid), and Graham Abbey (“Under the Banner of Heaven”) join the sequel.

Scott Derrickson is back in the director’s chair with a script he co-wrote with frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill.

“The Grabber may have been a sicko before, but here, rendered in nightmarish analog scenes, the undead boogeyman embodies evil more fully in surreal ways,” Meagan Navarro wrote in her review. “Hawke embraces the Grabber’s nastier streak, having a blast exploring a killer unencumbered by life’s physical limitations.”
