Dragon Ball Franchise Celebrates 40 years With Genki Damatsuri Event in January 2026

The spirit of Dragon Ball fans around the world will head to the Makuhari Messe in Japan this January to celebrate the final event of the series' 40th anniversary celebrations. On October 16, the official accounts for the Dragon Ball series announced the dates for the "Dragon Ball Genki Damatsuri," complete with a visual featuring every anime version of Goku and some details on the day. The "Dragon Ball Genki Damatsuri" will be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba on January 25, 2026 for a one-day event, which includes the "Genki Damatsuri Special Live Stage," which’ll include live stage performances. RELATED: Goku VA Masako Nozawa Becomes First Voice Actor to Receive Prestigious Person of Cultural Merit Recognition The "Dragon Ball Genki Damatsuri" will have Goku voice actor Masako Nozawa as a guest for the event alongside “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” singer Hironobu Kageyama, who will perform live. There will be original drafts of the manga on display, along with expected new announcements for the franchise. For reference, the "Dragon Ball Daimatsuri" event held in October 2024 marked the 40th anniversary of the original manga series which began in 1984, and began the anniversary celebrations. 2026 then marks the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball anime which started in 1986, as well as capping off the anniversary celebrations with the "Dragon Ball Genki Damatsuri". Also, “Genki Dama” is the Japanese name for “Spirit Bomb,” which means "Genki Damatsuri" is a festive pun based on Goku’s finishing move. Tickets for the event are free, but are only available by lottery. The first round runs until November 3 while the second round will run from November 7 to 30.
